In 2023, Seaside UMC was honored to be one of 10 churches selected to participate in the Connect Church project. This initiative encourages churches to deepen their community involvement and present plans for grant funding. Our Connect Church Team at Seaside UMC has crafted the "Be Program," a unique initiative for incoming 6th graders at Shallotte Middle School (SMS).

About the "Be Program"

Over the first four months of the upcoming school year, the "Be Program" will guide 6th graders through the themes of:

  • Be a Friend: Encouraging acceptance and compassion.

  • Be a Learner: Fostering academic goals and effective study habits.

  • Be a Citizen: Promoting respect, responsibility, and community involvement.

  • Be Yourself: Helping students embrace their unique identities and stay positive.

The curriculum includes engaging video clips, hands-on activities, and small group interactions to ensure an enriching and supportive environment.

Volunteer Opportunity

We need enthusiastic volunteers to assist with the Friday sessions at SMS. If you're interested in making a positive impact on young lives, join us for one of our Orientation sessions:

  • Thursday, August 8th at 11 AM

  • Monday, August 12th at 5 PM

Please register online to help us prepare for your participation. https://go.sumc.media/be

Note: Brunswick County requires a background check for all volunteers. The process will be covered during orientation.

For questions, please contact Neil Crowell.

Your involvement can make a significant difference in the lives of these young students. We look forward to your support!
