The 2015 Christmas Cantata presentation was held on Sunday, December 13 at 4 and 7:00 pm. Almost 1200 people attended the event which premiered composer Gary Scott’s new cantata “Hark, He is Born.” Gary is a long time member of Seaside’s orchestra (clarinet), and has spent his life pursuing the musical arts. He explains that he had Seaside’s choir in mind as he wrote the cantata. The title piece, “Hark, He is Born” was actually premiered during last year’s Christmas Cantata. Gary spent much of 2015 revising and finishing the remaining pieces for this year’s performance.
The Cantata, conducted by Music Minister Kathryn Parker, featured solos and ensembles that included Jennifer Hudson Santos, Linda Ladrick, Karen Viviano, Jamie Shoemaker, Steve Wray, Randy Bowling and Jocelyn Santos. A wonderful drama was interspersed through the cantata, performed by George Baumgartner and Jocelyn Santos.
For each cantata, Seaside’s Choir chooses one or more special mission projects to support with the love offering. This year’s recipients were Providence Home and the Seaside United Methodist Preschool program. A generous offering of approximately $3,600 will be divided between these two worthy projects.
